Libretto versus drama based on the Čapek's Makropulos affair

We compare the features of drama and libretto, based on the text The Makropulos Affair by Karel Čapek (drama) and Leoš Janáček (libretto). We would like to show not only common dramatic features, but also the specific librettist features, which Janáček used by transformation Čapek's drama into opera libretto. We demonstrated, that dramatic features are in libretto at the level of structure and the specific librettist features are at the level of story, single figures and its constellation. The analysis confirmed the preliminary hypotheses.

TITLE: Literature und Music: Woyzeck and Wozzeck. Alban Berg's Musical Adaptation of the Drama by Georg Büchner. SUMMARY: This thesis deals with a musical adaptation of the opera Wozzeck by the composer Alban Berg in the context of its literary model. The theoretical part offers an overview of the most important information and data about the authors and the origin of their works, based on the relevant sources. In the practical part, the principal emphasis is put on the libretto, specifically on formal and language similarities and differences detected in the text and their impact on the content and message of the work. Another focus is on musical language and its essential features, especially on the treatment of the voice, instrumentation and motives in the opera. The attention is also paid to the occurrence of autobiographical elements and critical reviews of the work. The thesis deals with the theme Permanent exhibition of the National Museum in Lobkowicz Palace. Specifically the second part of the historical exhibition, entitled Monuments of the National Past, which aimed to provide a comprehensive summary of the development of Czech state and its nation in the period from the arrival of the Slavs to 1848.
From literature towards opera: Comparative analysis of prose fiction and drama that have been adapted into the genre of opera performance

This thesis deals with a comparatice analysis, where there are original literary productions (proses, dramas), that were then used for creating librettos of operas productions. The thesis focus on opera performances presented on stages of South Bohemian Theatre in last few years, and also belongs to canon of tradition of world's opera. The analysis is following the way of adaptation of the original piece, it means the conversion of the production, originally defined for a quiet reading, into the genre based on performing and accented his performance's nature. The thesis follows conventional and inventive characters by original literary production, and also by opera's text "adaptation". The thesis specifically follows the relationship of these productions: Victorien Sardou: Tosca and Giacommo Puccini: Tosca; Prosper Mérimée: Carmen and Georges Bizet: Carmen; Pierre - Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais: The Marriage of Figaro and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro; Antonio García Gutiérrez: Il Trovatore and Giuseppe Verdi: Il Trovatore; and also the productions without the original literar artwork: Giuseppe Verdi: Aida and Antonín Dvořák: Rusalka.
Libretti by Lorenzo Da Ponte

The theme of the bachelor thesis is Italian libretti by the poet Lorenzo da Ponte. The thesis is dealing with a bio-bibliographical aspect of the author, analyses of three opera libretti and characteristics of texts written by da Ponte with a brief comparison with the work of the Italian poet and librettist Pietro Metastasio. Italian libretti are divided into three main chapters: Le nozze di Figaro, Il dissoluto punito ossia il don Giovanni and Così fan tutte ossia la scuola degli amanti. In individual parts descriptions are divided into a separate analysis of the above mentioned opera libretti. Introduction of each chapter describes a specific work and circumstances of its creation. A more detailed analysis aims to describe prominent figures and their possible changes in the course of the plot, analyze rhythm in stanzas and identify specific phrases, metaphors and naming. Conclusion of each chapter ends with the most important findings and the potential anomalies, which were discovered during the analysis.

The opera performances in Bratislava 1760

Bachelor's thesis deals with analysis of three Italian opera librettos Il Ciro riconosciuto, Ipermestra and Don Calandrano for opera productions in Bratislava in 1760. This thesis further identifies the authors of music and text. Biographies of performers are discused as well and all the findings of this thesis are being incorporated to the overall context of opera in Bratislava and middle Europe.

Messiah - theological insight into the oratorio by Georg Friedrich Handel In the introduction to the bachelor thesis topic of the Messiah - the theological insights of Georg Friedrich Handel's oratorio is really analyzed, why the Messiah is generally understood as "joyous oratorio", which brings good news. Why is often associated primarily with the celebration of Christmas. The next short chapter brought Handel's biography, which is important due to the inclusion of the Messiah in the current author's work. Oratorio libretto consists of excerpts from the Bible from the Old and New Testaments. The libretto for Handel's setting was chosen, because it was addressed to him in some way.The chapter on messianism would point out, as reflected by messianism Jennensis libretto in the oveall focus of an oratorio. The conclusion summarizes the importance of the work that can be fully used for pastoral purposes, and recognizes the contribution of the work that is recognized worldwide.
